Health Matters is a weekly radio show sponsored by the Medicine Center Pharmacy on WHBC 1480 AM in Canton, Ohio. This episode pharmacists Brad White and Paul White discuss the role of a hospitalist with Dr. Michael LInz from Cleveland Clinic Mercy Hospital, Canton Ohio.
Hospital stays can be full of surprises. One might be the doctor who shows up in place of your personal physician. Hospitalism is the fastest growing medical specialty in the United States. Demand for this specialty was initially fueled by managed care efforts to bolster efficiency, cut costs, and improve care. Today, patients admitted to the hospital tend to be more severely ill. Hospital-based doctors can better attend to such patients, respond to their problems, and navigate hospitals' increasingly complex systems. Today we will talk with Dr. Linz and learn what a hospitalist is and how during a time when as a patient we might feel vulnerable they are there to manage our care and work with our personal physician.
Learn the answers to the following question in this episode of our program:
What is the history behind this specialty?
What is the work model for a hospitalist?
What type of patients do you care for?
What are the advantages of the hospitalist care model?
Do all hospitals use hospitalists?
What are some current projects happening at Cleveland Clinic Mercy Hospital?
How is Cleveland Clinic’s presence helping our local community?
