Bioidentical Hormone Replacement Therapy (BHRT)

Vitality Med Practice & Wellness Solutions of Community Health Nursing

Welcome to Health Matters with the Medicine Center Pharmacy. I’m your pharmacist, Paul White. We’re glad you joined us. Before we begin, I’d like to thank our sponsors, Aultman Health Systems, Studio Arts & Glass, and Jenior Appraisals and Liquidations.

Today Brad and I are broadcasting from our administrative offices and our guest is Marna Revlock, Certified Nurse Practitioner at Vitality Med and Professor of Community Health Nursing at Kent State Stark Campus.

Do you remember a time when you had abundant energy and felt vibrant?  When you slept well, you didn’t need caffeine, you were able to consume foods that didn’t result in weight gain.  If you did gain weight you could make some easy adjustments and lose it fast.  As we age, things change.

Perhaps you are struggling to recall words easily or you are wishing you were experiencing that passionate spark with your spouse or loved one.  Are you wondering what happened?

The Mayo Clinic has published studies that show changes in hormone levels and metabolism as we age. When you were younger, hormones like thyroid, estrogen, progesterone, testosterone, DHEA, and pregnenolone were produced in abundance and in balance, but aging and stress can deplete many of the hormones that kept your body young, healthy, and strong.  The good news is that they can be replaced with Bioidentical Hormone Replacement Therapy (BHRT).  Bioidentical hormones are not magic, they do not cure all diseases, but they can restore your body to a healthier place, similar to when you were younger. This morning we will talk with Marna about BHRT and the services offered at Vitality Med

Hormone Balancing - Dr. Timothy McKnight

Health Matters is a weekly radio show sponsored by the Medicine Center Pharmacy on WHBC 1480 AM in Canton, Ohio. This episode pharmacists Brad White and Paul White discuss hormone balancing for both men and women with Dr. Timothy McKnight from Dennison, Ohio.

Bioidentical hormones are defined as man-made hormones that are very similar to the hormones produced by the human body. They can be used as treatment for men and women whose own hormones are low or out of balance. Some prescription forms of bioidentical hormones are commercially made by a drug company. Other forms can be custom-made by a pharmacist based on a doctor’s prescription order. This is called compounding. The US Food and Drug Administration has approved a number of bioidentical estradiol and progesterone medications, which are molecularly identical to the structure of the hormones generated by the human body. They have been through testing for safety and purity and to be sure each dose has the same amount of hormones.  Compounded medications use bulk chemical versions of these sourced from FDA approved distributors.

If you would like to learn more about compounding, we invite you to speak to our pharmacists or you can read more here from our professional partner Professional Compounding Centers of America (PCCA).

This edition of Health Matters is an excellent summary of Bioidentical Hormone Replacement Therapy (BHRT). Dr. McKnight and the Medicine Center have worked to serve patient needs for over 15 years. If you have benefited from BHRT please consider sending us a testimonial about your experience.

There is significant political pressure against allowing physicians to prescribe custom compounded medications in the USA for hormone replacement medications. Please visit our customer advocacy site to be informed on the risk of losing compounded medications. In America, we should have the freedom of choosing how we prescribe and receive health care.

Dr. Priya Ramaiah, a Gynecologist & Robotic Surgeon at Total Women’s Care.

Studies show that somewhere between 25% and 45% of post menopausal woman find sex painful.  Estrogen, the primary female sex hormone, regulates your reproductive system. Before menopause, estrogen helps maintain the thickness and elasticity of your vaginal tissues. However, as you age, your estrogen levels drop, causing changes in these tissues.  When vaginal tissue grows too thin, sexual activity can become painful.

Our topic today is women’s health with a focus on Mona Lisa Touch, a promising and exciting hormone free treatment.
